The Chiriqui Highlands:
Chiriqui Province bordering on the republic of Costa Rica, is the coffee and sugar district of Panama. There is good hunting for wild game. Trout fishing in the streams of 11,000 foot El Vulcan is the very best. Guides and accommodation are inexpensive. Go by air, stay at the Nacional, Dos Rios or the Hotel Panamonte.
Etta and Pats’ update on the area:
The Hotel Panamonte is still there after 40 years and has a wonderful restaurant. On our last trip in March, we had the great pleasure of having a wonderful meal with our friends and hosts, Cora and David. The Panamonte is still as stately and grand as it was 40 years ago.
The trout is to die for and like everything else in Panama, the Panamonte is re-inventing itself for today’s world.
